Join the Shoal Creek Conservancy for our annual Geology Walk and Fossil Hunt, the last Shoal Creek Walking Tour of Spring 2017.
This year we will co-hosting the event with Austin Nature and Science Center and Families in Nature so be sure to bring your families for a morning of fun! Our walk will be led by geoscientist, Jeff Henke and Austin Nature and Science Center environmental educator, Stacy Coplin.
Look forward to hunting fossils and learning about the hidden Seiders Springs with you!
Logistics: Please wear comfortable walking shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, and we recommend bringing water and a snack if desired. Parking is available along Shoal Creek Boulevard just south of 34th Street.
In case of lightning or flash flood warnings, the event will be cancelled. In the case of light to medium rain, please check your email, our Facebook page, and our website. We will decide whether to cancel the event no less than one hour before the start time.
About Our Guides: Jeff Henke is a Texas-licensed Professional Geoscientist and dedicated Shoal Creek volunteer with more than 28 years of professional consulting experience involving soil and hydrogeologic characterizations, remedial action design and implementation, agency negotiation and litigation support. He is currently a Principal Project Manager with Weston Solutions in Austin.
Stacy Coplin is a native Austinite who grew up playing in the local creeks, hiking through the roughs, and visiting the Nature and Science Center on school fieldtrips. She has been working at the Nature Center for a decade now in a variety of different rolls. Her current position is the exhibit specialist that she thoroughly enjoys. Her love for the outdoors led her to obtain a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Recreation and Business Administration from Western State Colorado University in Gunnison, Colorado. As an environmental educator, Stacy has taught children as young as toddlers, on up through college age kids in a variety of outdoor settings throughout the United States.
Look foward to seeing you there and thank you in advance for registering! We will add you to our monthly e-newsletter to keep you updated on future Shoal Creek events and news. If you prefer not to be added, please let us know by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
