The Shine Foundation

Why we exist: 98% of domestic violence cases involve some form of financial abuse. Financial pressures are also a leading reason why survivors stay in or return to their abusive relationships.

Yet, few financial solutions exist to help survivors of domestic violence get back on their feet, financially. That’s where Shine comes in.

Our Approach: Our work is grounded in the belief that each of us has power. Shine strives to help survivors realize their power through their financial choices. For every financial program we…

PARTNER with domestic violence emergency shelters in NYC to financially educate their residents, survivors of domestic violence who have become homeless after leaving their abusers

DELIVER weekly, one-hour classes on-site at the emergency shelters that address survivors' budgeting, credit repair, and career advancement needs

ITERATE content and delivery based on feedback from survivors, shelter staff and Shine volunteers.

We are a 100% volunteer-run organization of individuals of various backgrounds, but we share one common thread: our passion for helping abuse survivors.
