Event description
Celebrate William T. Sherman’s Birthday with a guided tour through the neighborhood where “Cump” was born 200 years ago this weekend.

About this Event

Many of the homes from Sherman’s childhood are still standing, and as we walk by each, you’ll hear the stories of the neighbors who played a part in the lives of Charles and Mary Sherman and their 11 children.

This 90-minute sidewalk tour begins in front of the family home (The Sherman House) and includes Cump’s foster home (the mansion where Thomas and Maria Ewing lived); two of his sister Mary Elizabeth’s stately homes; the houses where wife Ellen Ewing Sherman stayed during the Civil War; and much more. Wear comfortable walking shoes and dress warmly.

Tickets are $10 each and may be purchased online or at the Sherman House Museum on the day of the tour, while supplies last.

Times: 2 pm Saturday, February 8th and 11 am Sunday, February 9th.

Maximum 25 people per tour.

This tour is conducted outside. Please dress appropriately for winter walking.

Tour created by the Fairfield County Heritage Association, which owns and operates the Sherman House Museum and the Georgian Museum; and is host of William T. Sherman’s 200th Birthday Party.
