Event description

Description

All are welcome for a tour of Sheppard Square, a HOPE VI Revitalization development, registered as a LEED for Neighborhood Development (LEED-ND) community, in downtown Louisville. The event begins with a quick lunch at YouthBuild Louisville. Come enjoy a meal with the partners including Smoketown residents!

The new, 6-block Sheppard Square development features 7 LEED buildings and it is a fantastic example of what a well-planned, connected, walkable, healthy, and efficient neighborhood should look like:

  • Solar power is harvested
  • recycling and organic waste are collected
  • hard surfaces are pervious to rainwater
  • public transit lines are a short walk away
  • cars are charged at electric charging stations
  • kids at the local middle school take a short walk to class
  • and employers from almost every tier are a stroll or bike-ride away

This tour is presented in partnership with Louisville Metro Housing Authority, a USGBC Member organization and developer of the Sheppard Square LEED ND project. Norma Ward and Chris Zitelli will describe the attributes of a LEED Neighborhood and LEED ND features throughout Sheppard Square.

Many thanks to the Smoketown community partners contributing to the event, including Youthbuild's Lynn Rippy and Robin Burke. Discover the exciting green building and LEED plans for the Youthbuild campus, including "Solar over Smoketown."
