Event description

Description

This trip is for those adventurous souls who wish to take their hiking to the next level and see if they are cut out for long-distance backpacking. You'll learn how to choose the best gear and what to do in the event that things don't go as planned. How to deal with weather changes or how to survive in case of an emergency, all while needing to keep moving. Come to this prepared to make friends, learn about yourself and reconnect with nature. The Sheltowee Trace Trail is a 319 mile trail that is very popular as a training location for longer hikes such as the Appalachian Trail or the Pacific Crest Trail. The Sheltowee Trace gives hikers an idea of an extended hiking experience without ever being too far removed from developed areas. Our expert guides will show you all the skills that you'll need to know to backpack any trail, even such legends as the Appalachian Trail or the Pacific Crest Trail. This 60 mile section of this historic trail will take you through almost every ecosystem that the Red River Gorge has to offer and will offer a great challenge. Your route will start at Cave Run Lake State Park near Morehead and end at Natural Bridge State Park near Stanton. Since we will be doing about 10-12 miles per day, previous hiking experience and good physical fitness is suggested.
