With Kristy Howard

Kristy’s talk: EID – what is it good for?

Electronic identification has recently become mandatory for all sheep and goats in Victoria as well as cattle. But what benefits are there for the farmer on farm that justify the expense?

Dr Kristy Howard has first-hand experience with monitoring sheep growth rates using EID. Especially, what works (and what doesn’t), what is a waste of time and how to collect and analyse the data to make commercial selection decisions. Her presentation will cover how to get started using EID in a cost-effective manner and what data can be collected without the need for EID as well as examples of how the data can be used to increase production.

Raised on a farm in Central Victoria, Kristy worked for Vic Dept of Ag for 14 years before starting her own rural consulting business, Inspiring Excellence in 2008. Kristy currently works with several BestWool/BestLamb and Life Time Ewe Management groups and runs the Farming Smarter program in North East Victoria. Kristy has a strong background in on-farm research and has recently been involved in on-farm demonstrations showing the benefits of using electronic ID to boost sheep production.
