S/HE IS STILL HER/E – The Official Genesis P-Orridge Documentary

By The Philosophical Research Society

Overview

Director David Charles Rodrigues in person for a special screening of the definitive documentary about the transgressive sonic trailblazer!

Back by popular demand, 7th House proudly presents a very special encore presentation of S/HE IS STILL HER/E, David Charles Rodrigues’ brand new documentary on transgressive trailblazer Genesis P-Orridge. In her last act on Earth, P-Orridge decided to bare it all for Rodrigues’s film, the only documentary approved by P-Orridge h/erself. Co-presented by Hat & Beard Press in conjunction with the publication of their book of the same name, which transcribes P-Orridge’s final interview, following the screening we will welcome Rodrigues for an in-depth discussion and Q&A.

Genesis P-Orridge lived their art to the extreme. A pioneering musician, avant-garde artist, spiritual explorer and gender revolutionary, Genesis has been featured in films and videos, but never the full story…never this intimate...until now. In this authorized but raw and personal documentary, award-winning director David Charles Rodrigues (GAY CHORUS DEEP SOUTH) documents the final year of P-Orridge’s existence as they grapple with mortality and, in the process, reveal the many sacrifices and ultimate payoffs of a life that transcended boundaries. Featuring William Burroughs, Brion Gyson, Timothy Leary, Alice Genese (Psychic TV), David J (Bauhaus/Love and Rockets), Nepalese monks, African witch doctors, and a special cameo by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, plus never-before-seen archival treasures, including performances from Throbbing Gristle and Psychic TV.

Dir. David Charles Rodrigues, 2024, 101 mins, United States, English, Unrated, Digital.

ABOUT HAT & BEARD PRESS'S S/HE IS STILL HER/E

In the 1970s and ’80s, Genesis P-Orridge recorded numerous interviews with her then mentor William S. Burroughs. In 1991, during England’s satanic panic raids, those recordings were seized and burned by Scotland Yard, along with most of her archives.

Almost 30 years later in 2019, while Genesis was battling leukemia and given less than a year to live, she decided to share her knowledge and wisdom in recorded interviews with director David Charles Rodrigues.

Over the course of that year, Genesis and David sat down for six extensive conversations, which then became the foundation for S/he is Still Her/e: The Official Genesis P-Orridge Documentary (World Premiere Tribeca Film Festival 2024) .

This book is the full transcript of their final and most vulnerable interview, which took place just two weeks before Gen died. Her daughter, Genesse P-Orridge, curated a selection of rare archival photos to accompany the text from that interview. The photos represent the many lifetimes Genesis lived on this Earth.
