Event description

She Is Called is a conference, a gathering, a jumping off point for women who lead to connect and discuss issues surrounding their work and calling. The conference will take place near Barcelona, Spain. Space is limited, so register today!

Welcome to She Is Called Barcelona! She Is Called exists to network and resource women by providing conversational space for their ambitions, goals, and hopes. We’re so excited to bring the conversation to Western Europe.

We believe calling is the internal howl of passion by which we understand ourselves and our work in the world. All too often women, particularly those in faith contexts, have been asked to quiet our passions. We’ve been taught to fear ambition, sacrifice goals, and resign hope. At She Is Called, we believe speaking our passion out loud has the power to rekindle it. We structure all we do around the idea that voicing our hope empowers us.

We believe empowered women are crucial to reverse the abuses that have long gone unaddressed in our culture and churches. Coming together in conversation to share our experiences, hopes, and fears will create solidarity.

She Is Called is not a typical conference. Sessions will be conversational; content will form collaboratively. Facilitators will be there to keep things rolling, ask questions to spur further thinking, and guide the process, but your thoughts and insights will be the content. To ensure everyone's involvement in crafting the conversations, only 50 tickets will be available.

Our hope is to create a network of spiritual women from different cultural backgrounds who can encourage each other and build each other up on a regular basis. We believe that European women need a space like this. Our hope it that this event will be the first of a series throughout Europe. Join us!

CONVERSATIONS (Subject to change)
For this gathering we’ve chosen three topics that impact women in church contexts in Western Europe.

Culture and the Female Faith Experience-Tracy Watkin, Mar Bujon
Patriarchal Faith-Carla Ewert, TBA
Redesigning Church-TBA

In the months leading up to She Is Called, our facilitators will provide readings and media for each topic to help you develop your thoughts. Prep as little or as much as you’d like prior to our coming together.

You can read/absorb provided material for all the topics, only the ones you're interested in, or just jump in when you get here.

We will be meeting north of Barcelona near the city of Breda. We’ve rented a gorgeous rural home and will host the conversations at the home of Tracy Watkin.

Our conversations will take place here:

Can Noi Xic
Carreterra de Riells, KM 2
Riells i Viabrea, 17404

Lodging will be provided next door for those who have purchased General Registration INCLUDING Lodging here:

The lodging is 1.5 miles (about a 25 minute walk) from the town of Breda which is known for its pottery and has several cafes, restaurants and shops. If you are hoping to see more of Barcelona and Catalunya while you are here, you will want to look into renting a car. rentalcars.com is a helpful website for price comparison, and they have several companies that operate from the Barcelona Airport.

Barcelona is one of the best cities in the world for public transportation. There is an airport train that runs from terminal 2 (you can catch a terminal transfer bus for free right outside the baggage claim) to Sant Celoni, which is the largest nearby town. We will be able to arrange pick-ups from the train station.

There is also a nearby train that runs to and from Barcelona city-center. The cost for a one way ticket is €5 (the same for the airport train as well).

Please note that there are two types of tickets available. The first is a General Registration WITHOUT lodging ticket that includes all sessions and provided meals but DOES NOT include lodging. You will need to find an airbnb or other lodging nearby.

The second ticket is a General Registration INCLUDING Lodging that includes all sessions and provided meals and lodging here.

The Donation ticket is your opportunity to provide scholarships. Your donation will help women attend the event and support the creation of a She Is Called network in Western Europe. The amount is blank for you to fill in according to what you can give.
