A presentation of the award-winning film “She is Beautiful When She is Angry.” This film by Mary Dore resurrects the history of the outrageous, often brilliant women who founded the modern women’s movement from 1966 to 1971. SHE’S BEAUTIFUL takes us from the founding of NOW, with ladies in hats and gloves, to the emergence of more radical factions of women’s liberation; from intellectuals like Kate Millett to the street theatrics of WITCH (Women’s International Conspiracy from Hell!). It does not shy away from controversies over race, sexual preference and leadership that arose in the women’s movement, and brilliantly captures the spirit of the time — thrilling, scandalous, and often hilarious. This film also shares what groups of women where left out and how things have change with the evolution of Intersectional Feminism!

Women’s Health and Reproductive Rights will be discussed too by a long-time activist and artist, Dr. Judith Arcana. She was part of the *Jane Collective or Jane, officially known as the Abortion Counseling Service of Women’s Liberation. This was an underground service in Illinois affiliated with the Chicago Women's Liberation Union that operated from 1969 to 1973. This service was provided at a time when abortion was illegal in the United States.[1] The collective was started by activists in the women's liberation movement in an effort to address the increasing number of unsafe abortions being performed by untrained providers. Since illegal abortions were not only dangerous but very expensive, the founding members of the collective believed that they could provide women with safer and more affordable access to abortions. When a woman needed an abortion, they would call a number and ask for “Jane”. A Jane would answer and provide: coordinated care -- a safe house, a trained provider and support. This information maybe, unfortunately relevant today.
