Event description
Sharjah Architecture Triennial Edition 1: Rights of Future Generations

About this Event

The Sharjah Architecture Triennial is the first major platform to invite dialogue on architecture and urbanism in the Middle East, North and East Africa, South and Southeast Asia.

The inaugural edition is curated by Adrian Lahoud with the theme of Rights of Future Generations. It addresses the concerns of an emerging generation of architects and urban planners from across the Global South and responds to the unique challenges and opportunities they face in terms of emancipatory struggles, institution building, and historical archives.

Based on the conviction that architecture can only address the current planetary crisis of climate change by emancipating itself from the unspoken and often western-centric assumptions within the realm of design, it sets out to rethink fundamental questions about architecture and its power to create and sustain alternative modes of existence.

The Triennial will open to the public on the weekend of 9 November 2019 and run until 8 February 2020, with an opening weekend programme of performances, forums and summits scheduled from 9 – 12 November.

Please RSVP and we will be sharing further information on the opening weekend schedule soon.
