Acknowledgments and Discussion
Why do our daughters aspire to be princesses with long, blonde hair?' or 'Why, when we hear about an astronaut, a doctor or a professor, do we imagine a tall, White man?' This starts very early in life regardless of the intent of the parents.
Black children don't see their images positively reflected in society. Every cultural norm, every book, every television ad -all white. We are all inundated with white culture.
Let's change that. We invite you to experience black children and families as multi-faceted human beings with many stories to share. We invite families, children, grandparents, caregivers to join us.
Thanks to a generous grant from the Waylan Cultural Council.
Plenty of time to join in the experience. Bring your children and you come too. Listen to Sundiata, as he read snippets from his books and talks about his characters. Hear parts the musical sounds of his audiobooks. A fun, lively and memorable sharing the "Black" experience with Sundiata, the Tale Weaver.
