Class Outline

Introduction to SharePoint 2013 form concepts using the new App model
SharePoint 2013 has a variety of new technologies that you can utilize in order to build better forms for your users.  In the introduction, you will learn about changes in the SharePoint 2013 user interface that help your forms be more accessible to a diverse audience of users – including those that might be using mobile devices.  In addition, you will get introduced to the SharePoint “cloud app model” and how it impacts your decisions for SharePoint digital forms.

Understand what’s new with InfoPath 2013
InfoPath has long been the primary forms tool for SharePoint.  In this section, you will hear what has changed with InfoPath 2013.  You will be exposed to the direction the product is taking so that you can understand where it fits in for you.

Deliverable:  InfoPath sample forms.

Discover how to build form Apps for SharePoint using Access 2013 as a no-code approach
One of the new options for building rich no-code forms in SharePoint 2013 is Access Services.  Despite what you may have experienced in the past with Access, this is a completely new set of functionality specifically designed to work with the SharePoint app model while hosting all the data in SQL Server 2012.  No more Access database sprawl!

Deliverable:  Access 2013 sample form.

Learn about building form Apps for SharePoint using HTML5 and JavaScript
One of the most interesting changes in SharePoint 2013 is the adoption of HTML5 and JavaScript web standards.  As a result, you have some interesting new UI and development options which we will explore.

Hear about how Visual Studio 2012 and LightSwitch fit into the mix of your form strategy
Piggybacking on the previous section, developers have some new tools in SharePoint 2013 that are worth examination.  In this section of the class, you will learn when and why you might want to resort to writing code for SharePoint forms.  Among the tools we’ll look at are Visual Studio 2012 and LightSwitch.

Deliverable:  LightSwitch/HTML version of the InfoPath sample form.
