Event description

Description

Are there projects that you would like to see in your town that would increase the livability of a particular neighborhood, or part of downtown, and expand equality and accessibility? Imagine engaging and working with a team of town planners, other citizens, local artists, architects, transportation, school, or health officials to create a more attractive “place” to live, to improve a building, a troublesome intersection or to spark the rejuvenation of a part of town crying out for attention?

The Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County is organizing a discussion of the above issues. Please join us for a brainstorming session at the New Canaan Historical Society, 13 Oenoke Ridge Ridge, Thurs. Jan. 11, 6-8 pm. Please Register above.

The Cultural Alliance will facilitate the session: exploring your ideas about issues in town that you can discuss with your fellow citizens. The core principles developed from this session, along with a team put together from other Fairfield County towns, will help guide the direction of the Cultural Alliance's Creative Placemaking conference to be held Jan. 23-24 at Stepping Stones Museum.

The conference, Shaping Community, has been developed by the Cultural Alliance in collaboration with ArtPlace America, LISC, the Our Town Funding Program of the National Endowment for the Arts and other partners. It will convene cross-sector teams, from as many of the 15 towns in our region as we can, to collectively discover, listen, learn, and articulate meaningful and relevant projects across a range of urban opportunities and issues.

Shaping Community
Creative Placemaking Conference
January 23-24, 2018
Stepping Stones Museum, Norwalk

We will be putting together committed delegations of between 6 and 10 people from each town by January 12. Prior to the January conference, each group will commit to complete modest background reading and research and explore initial project ideas generated via dialogue among diverse voices in each town. At the conference, your delegation will participate in discussions about the impact of arts and culture on our urban fabric and sense of place, and hone your top ideas into an effective grant proposal.

To prepare for the January conference, we invite you to join us at this brainstorming session. Please come with ideas, questions, and an open mind. Let’s discover what creative placemaking means for you and your town!
