Event description

Description

Join the BFF for a discussion about the fast-changing documentary landscape.

Do you have a new idea for a documentary project that is more collaborative than competitive? Would you like to take advantage of digital platforms, and explore new directions beyond the standard feature film format? Can you imagine other approaches where you can gain new audiences, build community, and see how your work is making a difference?

This interactive workshop shares the fundamentals of documentary as an open space practice: what it is, how it works, and why every documentary filmmaker should consider trying it. Helen De Michiel in conversation with jesikah maria ross and Elizabeth Miller (via Skype), will present recent examples that illuminate key elements of this new media model – from designing encounters to inviting conversations, to hyper-local storytelling and creating community online and on the ground. You’ll walk away with a toolkit approach to documentary, helping you build your project in small, responsive increments or using your feature film assets to engage with audiences in new and creative ways.
