NEXT:SPACE + TOM GIBBS STUDIO present a special furniture exhibition exploring themes of Michigan design, past, present and future as part of the ongoing Michigan Design Icons Series.
Discover important design practices from iconic designers such as Charles & Ray Eames and Florence Knoll, carried on by today’s designers including: Alex Drew and NO ONE, Nina Cho, Colin Tury, Hunt & Noyer and more… through a carefully curated selection of original, mid century masterpieces and contemporary studio furniture.
Examining Michigan's legacy of important furniture design, five disctinct practices stand out: Material Experimention, Finding New Forms, Meat & Potatoes, Intelligent Minimalism, Technologic. These themes set the precedent for furniture design innovation in the mid-20th century and are still carried on by many Michigan designers today.
Debuting at Detroit's Month of Design, SHAPE is the six-part exhibition program produced by NEXT:SPACE + TOM GIBBS STUDIO to emphasize and explore these practices and what they mean for the future of Michigan's design legacy.
