The festival attracts a national audience to an isolated area of the UK and provides a platform for collaboration, discussion and development between artists from different countries and levels of experience.
In parallel with the festival, Octopus runs an annual residency programme for artists to research and develop new work from its studio building in Barrow Park. Previous artists in residence have included AGF (Finland), Hildur Gudnadottir (Iceland), Tetsuo Kogawa (Japan) and Philip Jeck (UK).
