Event description

Description

For this Shady Ladies Experience, we have a very special guest: singer-songwriter Dar Williams.

While we can't say that Williams is exactly an "emerging" artist -- after all the New Yorker calls her "one of America's very best singer-songwriters" -- she is a debut author.

Williams will be reading from her new memoir, "What I Found in a Thousand Towns" while also performing some of her musical oeuvre.

The book, which draws from Williams' two decades as a touring musician, muses on why some towns flourish while others fail, examining elements from the significance of history and nature to the uniting power of public spaces and food. Drawing on her own travels and the work of urban theorists, Williams offers real solutions to rebuild declining communities.

Fans of Williams' work won't want to miss this opportunity to see her in one of her most intimate performances.

She will perform in the sanctuary of Assemble Sound, which located in a historic church in front of the iconic Michigan Central Station in Detroit's Corktown neighborhood. You can read more about their work and project rehabbing the church here: http://www.assemblesound.com/church/

Fans of Shady Ladies will come away with a love for this debut author and musician.

For this special performance, we are offering two ticket types: The Fan and The Shady Lady.

-- The Fan: includes a signed first-edition of Williams' book and her performance

-- The Shady Lady includes the book, performance, a tour of Assemble Sound and a limited-seating dinner with Williams and other Shady Ladies.

As always, we will also feature a companion ticket, which can only be purchased in conjunction with a Fan or Shady Lady ticket. It includes everything from each ticket class but the book. (We understand that friends sometimes want to share a book rather than each buying one!)

Doors will open at 6 p.m. with the performance to start at 6:30 p.m.

Dinner guests can enjoy the performance and then meet us upstairs for the continuation of your evening.
