Event Details

LTLT and the Macon County Soil & Water Conservation District cordially invite you to a free landowner ‘Shade Your Stream’ field day on Tuesday, September 17. A free lunch will also be provided.

Shade Your Stream is a new initiative of LTLT and its partners. At its most basic level, it is a promotional campaign to encourage landowners to restore or maintain a healthy buffer of trees and shrubs along their streams, in order to protect properties from erosion and protect streams from pollution. At a broader level, it includes numerous land management and stream restoration practices and incentive programs to benefit both water quality and fish and wildlife habitat.

At this field day, you will see and learn the following from a broad group of professionals:

-       Why we should protect our streams

-       Demonstration of a simple and rapid method to assess the condition of your stream

-       Agricultural best management practices (BMPs) for water quality

-       Planning and designing a stream restoration project

-       Visit a successful agriculture BMP and stream restoration project

-       Availability of conservation incentive and technical assistance programs

While primarily focused on farm land, much of what will be presented is also applicable to residential properties.
