STAR: Start Talking About Race

About this event

Update: The session of this event on Tuesday at 7:30 PM has unfortunately been cancelled. We hope to be able to offer additional sessions to GSFS students at a later date!

STAR is an initiative started by Whitney M. Maddox of Georgetown University's Center for Social Justice Research, Teaching and Service (CSJ). STAR is not a training. It's a space for us to interrogate our racial stereotypes, bias, power, unpack our white privilege and oppressions through dialogue. While each STAR curriculum is tailored to its audience, participants can expect to feel uncomfortable as we name the ways in which stereotypes, prejudice, and bias have shaped how we view and engage with those of all races. STAR requires participants to be vulnerable and open to listening to others. We look forward to being uncomfortable with you as we talk about race.

All incoming SFS graduate students are strongly encouraged to attend one of these sessions. Please register for only one session, and email if you are no longer able to attend the session you signed up for.

The link to each Zoom session will be available on Eventbrite's Online Events Page on the day of the event. Please note that you will need to log into Eventbrite in order to view this page.
