Shaun Farley Skywalker Sound : Sound Design for Film
"If we're doing our job right, you don't even notice we've done it." This is how many people describe the philosophy behind editing sound for film. Dialog editing takes that sentiment to the furthest extreme possible. Because while the listener can overlook odd sounds that have been added in post, one mistake in the cutting of production dialog will immediately take the viewer out of the scene. Cutting dialog is a lot like trying to solve a puzzle. Shaun will talk about the decision making process that leads to a solution, techniques for eliminating unwanted elements, things you can do in production to save money in post, and how to prep tracks for the mix stage.
Shaun Farley is a sound designer and re-recording mixer. Since completing his Master's degree at Emerson College in 2004. He has worked for WGBH Boston, Teleproductions International and currently works as a sound editor at Skywalker Sound. Shaun is also a contributing editor on the Designing Sound website and has presented at The Smithsonian, as well as several Audio Engineer Society conventions.

When & Where
SF Cutters: http://www.sfcutters.com
SF Cutters is the World's first Apple Final Cut Pro User Group forming in March of 2000. We have evolved to cover NLEs on the Mac, including but not limited to FCP, PremierePro, After Effects, Resolve, AVID, Lightworks, related plugins, VFX software and more. We also focus on the business, aesthetics, and life of the postproduction professional.
That's right, the concept of a DV User Group, complete with networking, screenings and tech info centered around Apple Final Cut Pro was born right here in San Francisco. Currently there are over 100 chapters of Creative Pro User Groups based upon our model. We are proud to be the founders of this exciting movement, dubbed in 1999 as "The DV Revolution". Viva!
SF Cutters meets regularly in San Francisco and the Bay Area Jan thru Nov, the schedule may vary from year to year.
