SF CHINATOWN MOON FESTIVAL-BUFFET AND SHOW

Jointly hosted by Chinatown Restaurant and Chinatown Visitor Information Center

DESCRIPTION

Join us for a brunch, afternoon or evening session of live entertainment, cultural performances, Moon Festival activities, and a specially-crafted buffet-style dining experience for you and your family: all in one place.

The event will be held at Chinatown Restaurant, a 3-story restaurant on 744 Washington Street, which is next to Wentworth Alley and near Portsmouth Square.

Attendees can look forward to a buffet on the 2nd Floor, which showcases an array of Beijing’s finest cuisines and street food. Just to name a few of the most delicious foods on the menu: Braised Meat Balls in Brown Sauce, Tea-smoked Duck, Prawns in Creamy Mustard Sauce, Lamb/Beef/Chicken Skewers, Vermicelli with Cabbage and Dried Shrimp, Shredded Seaweed Salad, Hand-pulled noodles with different variations (meat sauce, Royal Style, or Minced Pork and Eggplant), Beijing style Beef Pancake, Chinese Traditional Pork Hamburger (Rougamo), Dumplings etc. There will also be demonstrations of making hand-pulled noodles and Jianbing (savory pancake), by renounced Beijing cuisine masters.

At the dessert table, you will have a chance to taste the desserts that were used to serve exclusively to imperial emperors. Of course, the Moon Festival would not be one if you don’t try out the different kinds of mooncakes, Tuanyuan Bing (reunion cake), and exotic Asian fruits.

Live cultural performances will take place on the 3rd Floor showcasing traditional dancing and instruments (about 30-40 minutes long).

If you still have time, go to the activity area on the 1st Floor to learn more about the history of the Moon Festival. The Moon Festival is the Chinese’s’ 2nd most important festival in China after Chinese New Year. It is believed that the moon would be the biggest and fullest during that time. It’s a joyous time for family, friends, and couples to reunite under a full moon during harvest (September or October). The round shape and completeness of the full moon symbolize harmony and reunion. There will be tea-tasting and Chinese calligraphy demonstrations. Children can learn how to make lanterns. They are welcome to take away a colorful lantern, whether they would successfully make one or not.

20 lucky attendees at each session will win a U.S. Moon Landing Dollar Commemorative Coin. Drawing happens at the end of the show.

General Admission Tickets: $68 each, which includes all food & drinks (except alcoholic drinks) and cultural performances.

Children aged 6-15: $38 each; Children aged 5 and under: FREE
