Description

Sexuality Education Summit: Foundations of Child Sexuality Development and Sexuality Education

Sexuality is fundamental to who we are as human beings and integral to every child's intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development from the time of birth. However, even in 21st Century education, the great majority of elite, California Independent schools remain 3-7 years behind in teaching even basic knowledge about human anatomy and reproduction. As educators we can turn the tide and truly provide the comprehensive sexuality education that teaches students the critical thinking skills needed to successfully navigate their complicated sexual landscape.

Led by nationally recognized Human Development educators and thought leaders, Day 1 of the Sexuality Education Summit will cover the foundations of sexuality education and child sexual development. Participants will walk away with a deeper understanding of why independent schools need to be at the forefront of sexuality education. Participants will also have the opportunity to engage in conversations with high school students about the issues they are encountering in their school communities and beyond, and the actions they are taking. Speakers include: Deborah Roffman, author of Talk to Me First: Everything You Need to Know to Become Your Child’s Go-to Person About Sex and Mike Riera, Head of Brentwood School and one of the country’s foremost authorities on understanding children and teenagers; Shafia Zaloom, author of Sex Teens and Everything in Between: The New and Necessary Conversations Today’s Teenagers Need to Have about Consent, Sexual Harassment, Healthy Relationships , Love and More; and Charis Denison, youth advocate, teacher and consultant.

Who should attend:

All K-12 Administrators, Teachers, Counselors, Coaches and Nurses. Lower/elementary school personnel and men are especially encouraged to attend.
