Sexual Health and Youth: What Clinicians and Caregivers Need to Know

This training will provide a general overview of HIV/AIDS and other STIs nationally and locally with an emphasis on youth and HIV/STIs. Current trends in HIV/AIDS, transmission, testing, and treatment will be reviewed. Participants will gain an understanding of the relationship between HIV/AIDS and other STIs and increase their comfort discussing sexual health with youth.

Participants will learn the following:

• Increased confidence in their ability to have conversations about sexual health with their clients

Identify ways to test and treat HIV.

Identify ways to prevent HIV/STI transmission.

Meet The Trainer: Jenna Peterson is the Education Program Coordinator for Planned Parenthood Mar Monte. She has been working as a health educator for Planned Parenthood Mar Monte since 2010 with experience teaching sexual health education to diverse populations within Alameda, San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties. Jenna holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from UC Santa Cruz and a graduate degree in public health from San Jose State University with an emphasis in health promotion and community health education. She is passionate about preventive health education, women’s health, and empowering individuals and communities to be their own health advocates.

About CE Credits: You can earn 6 CE Credits.

Edgewood Center for Children and Families is approved by American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. Edgewood Center for Children and Families maintains responsibility for this program and its content.

To receive CE credits provided by Edgewood, you must attend the entire training. We will be unable to provide attendees with certificates of completion if more than 15 minutes of course content is missed. If you will be requesting CE credits, please bring you license number to the training. No partial credit offered.
