Sexual Assault Awareness Event: Empowering Voices; My Truth is my Strength
The Bronx District Attorney’s Office is proud to host their first Sexual Assault Awareness Virtual Event on ZOOM.
During this free, one-and-a-half-hour event, we will have the pleasure to hear from two guest speakers, Ms. Lili Bernard (artist, actor, and Cosby survivor turned public figure and anti-rape activist) and Ms. Laveenya Ford (Bronx sexual assault survivor) about their experience and healing journey.
Following a brief intermission, there will be a panel discussion composed of the survivors, an advocate, a therapist, and an Assistance District Attorney from the Child Abuse Sex Crimes Unit. The panel will focus on common themes that sexual assault survivors encounter in the aftermath of assault (shame, victim blaming, and not being believed) and why many survivors choose to delay disclosure. Also highlighted will be the transformation from victim to survivor and the healing process. The panel will also provide resources of sexual assault services for the Bronx community.
During the event, the participants will be able to submit questions to the panel using the Q&A box. We also encourage participants to call our office number (718-590-2115) if assistance is needed and if they want to talk to a professional/therapist.
Please use this Eventbrite link to register. You will receive the livestream link via email. Feel free to submit your questions to BXDAEvents@bronxda.nyc.gov prior to the event.
We are looking forward to meeting you.
