About this Event

Ms. Jensen is a nationally-renowned expert who has worked with adult sex offenders and their families for more than 30 years. Her knowledge of adults who engage in illegal sexual behaviors with children is based in research and extensive clinical experience. Designed for a multidisciplinary audience, this training will provide an overview of adult sex offenders including how sexual interest/preference in children and pro-offending attitudes contribute to child sexual abuse; differences between male and female who sexually offend; and strategies and goals of “grooming behaviors” used by adult sex offenders. Further, Ms. Jensen will share information on how this information can be used to promote adult-focused child abuse prevention education and strategies.

Participants will learn the following objectives:

  • Develop an understanding of the process involved developing a sexual interest/preference for children and the pro-offending attitudes that support and allow for child sex abuse.
  • Gain information about the typical number and patterns involved in undetected sexual crimes committed by sex offenders.
  • Gain information about some of the unique differences between male and female, adult and juvenile sex offenders.
  • Understand some of the issues related to the low rates of reporting and detection of sexual crimes.
  • Be able to identify the strategies and goals of “grooming behavior” used by sex offenders.
  • Gain an understanding of some of the dynamics of grooming that make it difficult for children to fully/accurately comprehend the abuse they are experiencing, report and recover from child sexual abuse.
  • Understand some of the deficits inherent in early models of child sex abuse prevention models.
  • Be able to describe the benefits derived from adult focused child abuse prevention education.
  • Be able to describe some of the problems related to promoting adult focused child abuse prevention education.
