Sex and Nature Salon: What's the deal with gay frogs?
Event Information
About this Event
The Sex & Nature Salon invites writers, performers, artists, researchers, students, teachers and everyone curious to help us resolve the greatest debate of modern times: what’s the deal with gay frogs? Comedians, academics and even a special guest appearance from gay frogs themselves unpack the cultural significance of these green queens who hopped from queer icons to an alt-right meme.
Stand-up comedy and fascinating talks combine to present an evening of mind-blowing insight, sexual knowledge, politics and hilarity - with prizes for audience who leap into the challenges!
FEATURING:
Dr. Hannah Boast
Specialist on: ‘Ecofeminism to Alt-Right: Gay Frogs, Xenoestrogens and Contemporary Environmental Culture.’ Lecturer in the School of English, Drama and Film at University College Dublin, who works on water, environmental politics and feminist theory.
Bernie Sanders
US Senator for Vermont, social democrat, mittens brand ambassador. Recently catapulted to meme superstardom, we're delighted he's found a moment in his busy schedule to share political insight and help us heal this important cultural divide. Bernie bears a strange resemblance to alternative comedy legend and actor Thom Tuck - amazing what effects lockdown stress can have on people.
Dragprov Revue
RuPaul's glamour meets ‘Whose Line Is It Anyway’ style improvised comedy - a formidable pairing of lovable soft-boy and sassy queen creating dazzling songs, sketches, and spontaneous raps.
Dr Ina Linge
Exeter University Modern Languages & Culture lecturer in German, research member of the Sexual Knowledge Unit and host of 2020/21 Arts and Culture Creative Fellowship on The Politics of Sexual Nature.
Hosted by Siân Docksey
Queer surrealist comedian with political zing ✨ Arts & Culture University of Exeter Creative Fellow 2020-21.
Please note that this event includes sexual themes and strong language, so not recommended for children (but highly recommended for adults who don't take themselves too seriously 🐸 )
About the event & registration
This event is interactive and will include the use of breakout rooms on Zoom for fun, playful audience challenges on the theme. We really enjoy recreating some interactivity to disrupt the weirdness of lockdown, and we’d love you to join in on this and take part - all audience interaction is gentle and fully opt-in, so no need to worry about being picked on like in an aggressive comedy club.
Registration closes on Wednesday 10th February at noon, 12.00pm (GMT). We will e-mail you a Zoom link then, so keep your eye on your inbox.
Rather join us via a YouTube livestream?
If you would prefer, you can also tune in to a non-interactive, livestream of the Zoom event via YouTube - just select the YouTube ticket option. This viewing link will be sent via e-mail at noon on Wednesday 10th February.
There will also be a *ribbit* -- sorry -- *repeat* showing of this event as a recording made available on the Arts & Culture University of Exeter website.
