Description

Sewing Your Handwoven Fabrics

Thursday, June 7, Friday, June 8, & Saturday, June 9

9am - 4pm (all three days)

Instructor: Liz Spear

$220 WGGC members / $245 non-members - No materials fee

Skill Level: Intermediate sewing skills needed

Class Limit: 15 maximum / 5 minimum

Chair: Toby Ganz

Move past the bog jacket and shawl with your handwoven fabric and learn to cut and successfully sew a jacket, shirt, or vest. Adding fit and stylistic flair to our incredibly beautiful handwoven cloth requires some extra care for results you will not get with commercial fabrics. Using pre-workshop suggestions/guidelines, you'll select a pattern appropriate for your fabric. Cutting, marking, seam finishes, pressing, buttons, and linings will be demonstrated as you sew through the steps to your new handwoven garment.

Participants need to bring:

  • Handwoven fabric, suitably finished, in quantity enough for your project
  • Commercial or original pattern, PRE-TESTED for fit and size. Patterns made in Daryl Lancaster's are suggested.
  • Sufficient notions for project: thread, fusbile interfacings, buttons, lining if needed, etc.
  • Sewing machine and serger (if desired) with owner's manual and extra needles
  • Scissors, large and small, sharpened, and rotary cutter (if desired) with extra blade
  • Straight pins, 6" ruler, hand sewing needles, contrasting thread for tailor's tacks, tape measure, ripper, etc.
  • Lunch and beverages (A refrigerator and microwave are available for use.)
  • Optional: cutting mat
