What to Expect/Bring
We'll hike the trails and take a closer look at the world around us. Bring water, snacks, and your observation skills to help catalogue all sorts of species. A smartphone with the iNaturalist app is how we record observations (download in advance!). A smartphone is not required to participate, but the ability to take photos is helpful. Participants may walk on paved pathways, dirt trails, grass, or other terrain, and should be able to walk up and down hills on uneven ground.
What’s the City Nature Challenge?
The 2018 City Nature Challenge takes place April 27-30 in more than 70 cities wordwide. During these four days, people in each of the cities will get outside and document species. Results will be announced Friday, May 4, so be sure to upload your observations by then! More info at citynaturechallenge.org
What's a Bioblitz?
Bioblitzes are gatherings of scientists, citizen scientists, land managers, and more, all working together to find and identify as many different species as possible. Bioblitzes not only help land managers build a species list and atlas for their park and provide invaluable data for researchers, they also highlight the incredible biodiversity of our natural areas.
This is a community volunteer organized event. The organizers and leads are not paid or professional guides. Participants are responsible for their own safety and activity in the park.
