Event description
SEVEN STARS ARTS CENTER in Sharon, Vermont is a small venue with big plans. Our online Summer Annual Appeal supports our new initiatives!

About this Event

Our New Initiatives include...

A Partnership with the Sharon Academy High School

This Fall the Sharon Academy High School Students can take music electives in Music Composition/ Theory and Choir, at Seven Stars. We will also reach out to Homeschooled High Schoolers to join these classes for a small fee. Regular, quality music education is an important component to a well-rounded education and Seven Stars is proud to be serving these creative and talented students. Your donation can help purchase composition materials and new choral music.

A Music Lending Library

As technology is making access to printed music easier it is also making it more costly. Community members are finding themselves with boxes of printed music and books stored in attics, closets and basements. Seven Stars would like to help. Donating your extra music to our new lending library is a way to keep these free resources in circulation. Studio 4 will be accessible for anyone needing a song for a wedding, funeral or teaching resources. All instruments, voice, choral, dance, art books and music are welcome. Come and peruse. Our deadline for opening is Fall 2019.

A space for concerts, receptions, classes, workshops, meetings, ….

Keeping Seven Stars to code and accessible requires unrestricted financial reserves that we currently are striving to maintain. Wonderful musicians seek out Seven Stars for local concerts. This summer the Main Stage has seen well attended events with some of the county’s hottest new talent. Local dance studios and private teachers host recitals and events. New technology in the form of assistive audio/video projection and educational technology would enhance our ability to support workshops, classes, meetings and other gatherings. Donations are gratefully accepted to create a more connected community space.

Historic Preservation

Last month, the board walked through the building with Jenna Lapachinski from the Vermont Preservation Trust. Her assessment was encouraging. Our building is in good shape. That’s not to say we don’t still have work to do but the former board had their priorities in the right place.

We still need to get the rest of the building painted, the main hall floor refinished, the stage and historic curtains re-stored and the roof repaired. But, thinking into the future is necessary as we consider reviving the old belfry, restoring the clock and shutters, installing better outdoor lighting, re configuring the parking lot and creating attractive gardens.

Seven Stars was a church, a grange, and a garage before it was an art center. Historic designation isn’t free but the board believes in being the stewards of this important piece of local history and protecting it for future generations. A donation would prove to grant funding organizations that the stakeholders in Seven Stars contribute and are vested.

New Classes

Megan Helm is offering voice lessons in Studio 4, sharing it with the new music lending library.

She will also be offering a Wednesday after school choir called the Adventure Kids Choir. AKC has a nature conservation mission so singing to save the earth is what they do.

Emerson Gale is offering a monthly All Comers Jam that invites everyone to grab an instrument and join his inclusive musical group experience.

The Solidarity Singers is a once in a blue moon event that supports the mission of the Justice Choir in teaching the protest songs of our past and creating new vocal works for singers of the future.

With the addition of a video projector, we hope to offer a film series for children and adults, TED talks/lectures, and multimedia concerts.

Preschool music and movement classes are in development for a cold weather play option.

A “communiversity” of classes is in development so that people with expertise can share their gifts such as Peter and Thelma Thompsons’ Geology thru the Arts.
