Session 2: Readiness and Recovery; How to Nuture ‘Bouncebackability’
Time: 1.30pm – 4.00pm, £70pp
Resilient children may be happier than their less resilient peers, and more capable of managing the transition and change, they are also better learners… But, what we must understand is that children’s ability to bounce back is a building block in their learning; we’ll never get the best out of children by focussing on learning first, and resilience later. This session will articulate what resilience is, what we can do about it, and the principles that must be place to build resilient children.
We will also explore the research behind the ‘Growth Mindset’ theory; and how we can use these simple principles to help the children we work with to overcome ‘learned helplessness’ and to foster the ‘I can’ attitude and “Bouncebackability”.
This session will show you how resilience develops at a basic neurological level, helping you to understand more about what difference you can and can’t make; especially for those children to whom resilience does not come so naturally. Ultimately this session will support you in nurturing children who do not just survive, but thrive, in adverse circumstances.
