Event Details

The training materials for the in-person and live broadcast for the Serving the Whole Learner Symposium can be found at https://padlet.com/Onesystem/Wholechild. Hard copies of the symposium materials will be available at the in-person meeting. Those of you joining us via the live broadcast are encouraged to print out the training materials prior to the event.

The live broadcast sessions will be available to view from between 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at http://cde.videossc.com.  The following sessions will include Questions and Answers:

  • 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. A Call to Center our Vision Around the Whole Learner Director at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, Dr. Brooke Stafford-Brizard 
  • 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Panel Discussion: Whole Learner Tenets Overview

Online participants are encouraged to email questions to Onesystem@cde.ca.gov prior to the live broadcast or during the sessions noted above.

All sessions will start promptly at the designated time. Each session (unless highlighted) will be filmed live and video archived.We encourage group meetings to watch the symposium live and engage in the training sessions.

Symposium Objectives:

  • Discuss challenges in applying the whole learner approach to make sure all learners are supported, challenged, engaged, safe, and healthy.
  • Identify how we can establish whole learner approaches that lead to better student outcomes.
  • Share promising practices and resources that support all of the whole child tenets.

10:30 – 12:00 a.m. Panel Discussion: Whole Child Tenets Overview

  • Moderator: Chief External Officer at Partnership for Los Angeles Schools, Ryan Smith
  • Challenged: Chief Impact Officer at Altschools, Dr. Devin Vodicka,
  • Health: Director of Fresno Unified Nutrition Services, Jose Alvarado
  • Supported: Social and Emotional Learning Advisor for the Partnership for Children & Youth, Katie Brackenridge
  • Engaged: Director of the Expanded Learning Division at CDE, Michael Funk 
  • Safe: Research and State Policy Director at Public Health Advocates, Dr. Flojaune Cofer

1:00 – 3:00 p.m. World Café Activity: Whole Child Challenges & Uncovering Solutions (In-person audience only)

  • Facilitators: Whole Child Tenets Overview Panel Leads. The in-person audience will have the option to attend multiple focus group sessions in the whole child tenets: Healthy, Safe, Supported, Challenged and Engaged

3:00 – 3:30 Closing Remarks
