Frequently Asked Questions:
Who should attend this event?

The target audience is administrators, faculty, and staff from community colleges in Los Angeles County. Attendees should be interested in helping their college identify and support justice-involved youth or adults. This could include teaching inside a juvenile facility, teaching inside an adult jail, building targeted pathways to your college, creating targeted CTE pathways, and supporting justice-involved students through to credential, degree and/or transfer.

What type of event will it be?

The event is designed to facilitate discussion, connections, and the development of concrete ideas. Your time is valuable, and it is our goal to host an event that results in tangible takeaways.

What topics will be covered at this event?

County representatives, students, community groups, probation/parole and others will explain what they need and how they would like to work with you (for example, in which juvenile facilities or jails are there opportunities to teach in-person courses). Attendees will also learn what other colleges in the County are doing to support justice-involved students and how they are funded, which existing reentry networks are ready to partner with you, and how you can work with the County- and City-based employment initiatives for justice-involved students and graduates. Questions and brainstorming are expected.

I am already working with justice-involved students. Should I come?

Yes. We are collecting information about what colleges in Los Angeles County are doing, so that you can know what other colleges are doing.  We want to highlight your work, and connect you with others doing similar work. Please let us know if you are at a college that wishes to highlight what it is already doing for justice-involved youth or adults in the County.

Will justice-involved students be involved?

Yes, in both the planning and presentations.

Can I forward this email to colleagues at my college or at other community colleges in Los Angeles County?

Yes, please do.

Who should I contact for additional information and to RSVP?

For questions about registration or logistics, please contact Natalie Ruiz, Program Coordinator,

For questions about the event’s content or other statewide work, please contact Rebecca Silbert, Renewing Communities Co-Director,
