Series of Life Drawing Classes
Weekly Event - Every Tuesday: 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM (PDT)
– The Monterey Museum of Art will offer a series of life drawing classes taught by artist Daria Shachmut on Tuesdays, beginning September 24 for eight sessions, 10 am–12:30 pm. $250 MMA members, $300 non-members includes model fee. MMA Pacific Street, 559 Pacific Street Monterey.
In these classes participants will learn to “see”, learn strong measuring skills, and learn to create expressive drawings of the human figure. All representational painting, whether landscape or figurative work, depends upon strong drawing to succeed. Participants will learn the essentials of drawing: line, shape, proportion, value, perspective and composition and the techniques and insights to improve drawing. After quick sketches to develop expressiveness and capture the gesture of the model, the instruction will move into longer poses to develop accurate drawing skills. A materials list will be available upon registration.
Daria Shachmut, award winning and nationally recognized artist, has been featured in Southwest Art, the Artist’s Magazine, Western Art Collector for her expressive portraits of cattle. After many years in the Bay Area with a professional focus on the human figure and portraiture, she also taught drawing and painting at Merritt College, Laney College and Chabot Colleges. A move to Carmel Highlands changed her focus to the Hereford cattle in Big Sur. Her work is represented by The New Masters Gallery in Carmel, the Carmel Art Association, and Lee Youngman Galleries in Calistoga, CA.
