New Orleans, LA
September Luncheon: The Advocate's Entry Into New Orleans
Featuring guest speaker: David Manship, publisher and CEO of The Advocate
With the recent changes to the overall structure of The Times-Picayune, the media landscape in New Orleans is forever changing. The absence of a daily newspaper is providing an opportunity for other outlets, such as The Advocate, to step up to the plate and fulfill a gap in what has become a significant part of the daily routines of New Orleans residents. Listen as the publisher and CEO of The Advocate discusses his plans for expanding coverage of the Baton Rouge paper into the New Orleans area and best practices for working with his staff.
About David Manship - Manship received his elementary school education in East Baton Rouge Parish public schools. He is a graduate of Sewanee Military Academy in Sewanee, Tennessee and of DeVry Institute of Technology in Dallas. He served in the United States Army from 1968 - 1971. In 1973, Manship began his career in Baton Rouge at The Advocate, Saturday and Sunday Advocate - working in all areas of the company. In 1985, he was named vice president - sales and marketing and became associate publisher in 1989. He served as publisher from 1991 to 1999, returning to the Publisher's Office in 2007. Manship is a past president of the Louisiana Press Association and the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge. He currently serves on the board of directors of Capital City Press, Louisiana Television and Broadcast Corporation and Mobile Video Tapes and has served board positions for a number of organizations over the years. In 1984, Manship was one of 13 individuals who received the President's Award from the LSU Foundation for meritorious support of higher education. In 1989, he was presented the SMEI Marketer of the Year Award.
