About this Event

We want you to join the ASBC Family to join us for one of our powerful ministry workshops! All of our participating ministries have prayed and prepared each of the workshops to inform you and strengthen your relationship with God!

Check out all of the exciting ministry workshops being offered in September below:

These exciting programs are for our children and youth:

  • Legal Resources Ministry Pre-Law Program
  • Sometimes You Win, Sometimes You Learn (for Youth)
  • Today’s Young Entrepreneurs: Create Your Own Business!
  • Tutorial Ministry Orientation - Parents, Students & Tutors

While your child is IMPACTed in their class parents and adults are invited to these informative programs:

  • Climate for Justice Workshop-
  • Lean In: The Myths of Pressing Toward a Balanced Work and Family Lifestyle-
  • Men's Ministry Book Discussion-
  • Stewards of Children® child sexual abuse prevention training
  • The Violence of Silence: Talking about Suicide among Black Folx
  • Tutorial Ministry Orientation - Parents, Students & Tutors

As you check in you will be given an opportunity to register your child with the Child ID Program.

Child ID Program- This community outreach initiative benefits parents all over the country by providing confidential ID Kits which may prove to be a life-saving tool if that child is ever missing. It is a proactive approach to help protect our children. The information collected by the kit is kept by the parent or guardian. Law enforcement has no way of tracking or profiling the child.

Climate for Justice Workshop- Join Alfred Street’s Going Green Ministry and Interfaith Power & Light for an interactive workshop about where our energy comes from and why it matters. We’ll learn about the current struggle by an African-American church community in Union Hill, Virginia to stop fossil fuel pipelines on their land, and about the promise of solar energy to bring energy autonomy and prosperity to our communities. We’ll conclude with practical steps we each can take, at home and at church, to save energy and to shift to cleaner power, and commit to vote with climate justice in mind for leaders who will follow our lead!

Lean In: The Myths of Pressing Toward a Balanced Work and Family Lifestyle- Society has conveyed the message that we can either have it all or have to choose between career and family. As parents/legal guardians/aunts/uncles caring for children, are we really supposed to do it all, support it all, and make sure we smile through the process? Is it really true that men don't have to worry about family as much when they have a career? Come join a thought-provoking conversation led by a diverse panel of working moms and dads as we examine how to lean in and achieve the balance in our lives that we desire.

Legal Resources Ministry Pre-Law Program- Interested in becoming a lawyer or pursuing a law degree? Join the Legal Resources Ministry for its first ever Pre-Law Discussion Panel. The event will feature three panelists, including: a previous ABSC Scholarship recipient that pursued a career in the law, an attorney that pursued the law as a second career, and a professional that is using their law degree in a non-legal capacity. This event is appropriate for all age groups, including Crossover, Higher Ground, Come As You Are (CAYA), and Young Adult Ministry-aged members, as well as any other members interested in pursuing a career in the law. This event is also open to the public. Please register online today!

Men's Book Discussion- Join the Men as they discuss Devon Franklin's new book The Truth About Men.

Sometimes You Win, Sometimes You Learn (for Youth)- If you're like most preteens and teenagers, you've suffered some loss, messed something up, or been disappointed. Come to this session to learn how young people can take a different approach for turning losses, mistakes, and disappointments into opportunities.

Stewards of Children® child sexual abuse prevention training. This is the only evidence-informed sexual abuse prevention training for adults that is available nationally. The training teaches adults how to recognize, react responsibly to and prevent child sexual abuse. The program is designed for individuals concerned about the safety of children as well as organizations that serve youth. The training includes discussion about critical issues in sexual abuse prevention and the relevance of these issues in our communities through a video sharing the voices of survivors and experts in the field . The Violence of Silence: Talking about Suicide among Black Folx- Suicide is on the rise among Black people, especially Black children and teenagers. This interactive session will offer an understanding of the myths that keep us silent. Participants will also begin to understand how to identify common signs of suicide, while also gaining skills for intervening with folx who show signs of suicidality.

Today’s Young Entrepreneurs: Create Your Own Business!- In this session, the Entrepreneurship Ministry will engage with our young participants (Ages 5-19) guiding them through a series of workstations that will assist them in developing business plans, marketing strategies with specific target markets. The participants will then price their goods and/or services and receive a printed business plan to take home along with a certificate. We ask parents to praise the entrepreneurial in our future leaders! This workshop will teach the following: Believe in yourself. Have a vision. Find good people. Face your fears. Take action!

Tutorial Ministry Orientation - Parents, Students & Tutors - Experience the enhancements and pre-registration requirements for the 2019-2020 school year. Limited enrollment is planned for the coming school year, so be sure not to miss this important event. Orientation attendance is required for parents and students. Tutor attendance is optional but encouraged.
