Event Details

Picture a typical fraudster and you’re likely to picture a male manager in his mid-40s with a nice car and a friendly smile. After all, the typical fraudster does fit this profile, according to a 2016 KPMG study. However, there’s another fraudster whose profile is becoming more and more common (up by 40% in a 10-year period). These “pink collar criminals” are female long-term employees in trusted financial and administrative positions and their numbers are rising year by year. In order to tackle this rising threat, today’s investigators must consider the different motives and strategies of these emerging criminals and the new challenges they bring. Come join Kelly Paxton, CFE and fraud educator, for an interactive lunch panel on pink collar crime and hear one local woman’s story about how she stole $250k from the medical practice where she worked.

The Presenter:

Kelly Paxton has more than 13 years of law enforcement experience. Ms. Paxton is the Principal for Financial CaseWorks LLC, a private investigative firm. Ms. Paxton started her career in law enforcement as a Special Agent for US Customs Office of Investigations in 1993. Ms. Paxton was recruited by US Customs for her expertise in finance. She worked white collar fraud, money laundering and narcotics cases. She also was responsible for the district’s undercover operations and financial reporting of these operations. She testified at Grand Jury in the Western District of Washington. Ms. Paxton has been the affiant on numerous search and seizure warrants.

Prior to her law enforcement career Ms. Paxton was a licensed stockbroker at Dean Witter and Piper Jaffray. She also was a trader/contract negotiator at Morley Capital Management. Ms. Paxton started her career at the Chicago Board of Trade in 1985.

With her background in the financial services industry Ms. Paxton has combined the two fields into Financial CaseWorks LLC. Ms. Paxton specializes in financial investigations starting from the initial background interview to the tracing of funds in embezzlement, elder abuse, and misappropriation of assets. Ms. Paxton also investigates mortgage fraud.
