The current landscape of medication adherence in the US is changing dramatically with new policies and better understanding of the prevalence, impact, and cost of non-adherence in the healthcare system. After summarizing the current state of medication adherence, I will discuss effective approaches from a patient, provider, healthcare system and societal perspective and conclude with a discussion of recommendations to address this growing and significant public health issue of medication nonadherence.
