Event description

Description

You've been working and advocating for your child for years: countless meetings with therapists, evaluators, psychologists, and IEP teams. Now that your child is getting older, when is the right time to start teaching them to advocate for themselves? Be it in class, at home, or on the playground, our children are constantly navigating through different experiences. From the time they enter preschool or kindergarten, we, as parents, are no longer able to be at their side at every moment of the day. We must trust that the teachers and aides, therapists, or specialists will be there to help them get through their days. But as they get older and have more self-awareness, every child reaches a point in their life where they can start speaking for and making decisions for themselves. This is the first step in self-advocacy and independence.

Join us as we welcome Debra and Nicole Adler to share with us their experience navigating through Nicole's years in school. Debra will share how she taught Nicole to self-advocate and Nicole will share how she used her skills in self-advocacy to earn her high school diploma and enter college.

Free childcare and Spanish translation can be reserved by RSVP.
