This EventBrite registration is for you and your students to join us for Arrive 2021–our virtual summit–on Wednesday, November 17.

To fully participate, there are three unique opportunities available for your students:

  1. Team Innovation Challenge (submissions are due Friday, November 12).
  2. Individual student Idea Competition (submissions are due Friday, November 12).
  3. Virtual Summit held via Zoom on Wednesday, November 17.

The Innovation Challenge and Idea Competition are completely optional but highly recommended! More information on participating in these opportunities is provided below.

1. Innovation Challenge

This year’s Innovation Challenge encourages student teams to use market research and discovery tools to help tell the story of a local entrepreneur. Each student team (2-5 students) will begin by identifying a local entrepreneur who serves customers in their community and will create a simple StoryMap to highlight 3 things:

  1. What local Problem is addressed by this entrepreneur's business?
  2. Who are the People currently affected by this Problem?
  3. How would you recommend increasing the Potential growth of this entrepreneur's business?

Team submissions are due Friday, November 12. The top 5 teams will be announced during the Arrive virtual summit, and each member of the 1st Place team will receive $100.

Instructions can be found at https://thesep.org/2021-innovation-challenge/.

2. Idea Competition

New to this year's agenda, we are hosting a 1-minute pitch competition for individual students. They don't need a business plan. They don't need existing customers. They don't need experience. They only need an idea! The uniqueness of their idea is not as important as their determination to understand a problem they want to solve.

All video pitches will be submitted via FlipGrid and evaluated using the following criteria:

  1. Has the student provided clear evidence of a real, significant Problem or gap in the market?
  2. Has the student identified and clearly described the People who are affected by this Problem?
  3. Has the student provided a compelling case for the Potential of your idea as a solution to this Problem?

Video submissions are due Friday, November 12. The top 5 pitches will be announced during the Arrive virtual summit and will each receive $100.

Access to submit student videos to our FlipGrid group can be requested by emailing a list of any participating student names to james.b.wilcox@usm.edu.

3. Virtual Summit

Join us the morning of Wednesday, November 17 for an interactive program focused on opportunity recognition and activating an entrepreneurial mindset within our students. The top submissions from the Innovation Challenge and Pitch Competition will be announced during the virtual event.
