The Creative Technology research group is pleased to host a talk by Dr. Becky Stewart on e-textiles and movements. The event is free. Booking is requested so we can plan for attendees.
Dr. Becky Stewart: Sensing Movement with Textiles
Dr. Becky Stewart will be sharing some of her work in e-textiles that covers a range of applications and explorations. She works with e-textiles and signal processing to build interactive, body-centric wearable computing systems. These systems often incorporate performance, fashion, music and/or design.
Becky is a lecturer in the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science at Queen Mary University of London. She was recently awarded the Daphne Oram Award Lecture for Digital Innovation. Becky was the co-founder of Codasign, a creative technology education company that ran workshops teaching kids and adults how to use technology to develop creative projects.
Dr. Gabriela Avram: Textiles and Digital Technologies from an Interaction Design Perspective
Becky's talk will be followed by a short presentation by visiting lecturer Dr. Gabriela Avram. Gabriela will be sharing snippets from her work with textiles and digital technologies.
Gabriela Avram is Lecturer in Digital Media and Interaction Design in the Department of Computer Science and Information Systems, and a senior member of the Interaction Design Centre at the University of Limerick, Ireland. Her background is in Computer Supported Cooperative Work and Knowledge Management. Her current research focuses on the role of technology in supporting civic engagement of local communities. Her recent work on the meSch project (http://mesch-project.eu) on the design of interactive installations for cultural heritage settings has given her the chance to interweave her personal interest in textiles with her work in interaction design.
