Introduction

This seminar highlights the advances in manufacturing technologies and processes for the medical device industry. Frost & Sullivan, a leading global research and consulting organisation, will present market insights of medical devices and its growth opportunities in Asia medtech industry. Semoegy MedTech Learning & Semoegy Advisers & Ventures will present a risk-based QMS for medical devices. Creatz3D, a leading additive manufacturing company, will present mass customisation in the medical devices industry through 3D printing.

SIMTech researchers will also be sharing state-of-the-art technology competencies in manufacturing opportunities in low energy X-ray sterilisation, complex 3D laser marking and functional coating technology for medtech devices and applications.

About Presenters

Mr Philip Tay - Research Analyst, Transformational Health, Frost & Sullivan. Philip Tay has a Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology, a Master’s degree in Business Administration, and over 4 years of prior experience in the industry involving interventional radiology, analytical instruments and life science industries. In addition, he uses market, business and corporate intelligence to identify key policies, business and market opportunities in ASEAN.

Dr Nealda Yusof, Founder & Consultant at Semoegy MedTech Learning & Semoegy Advisers & Ventures. Nealda holds a PhD from National University of Singapore specialising in the Field Of Study for Biomedical Materials & Chemistry. Additionally she also has a Law Degree from University of Birmingham specialising Regulatory of medicinal products and medical devices in the UK. Her company provides training courses specifically designed or relevant to the medical device industry aimed at helping medical technology businesses achieve both their regulatory and commercial goals.

Dr Ha Thi Mai Hoa is a Scientist from the Precision Measurement Group, SIMTech. Prior to joining SIMTech in June 2011, Dr Ha pursed her PhD in University of Paris 11 in the research of gamma ray spectroscopy with HPGe detectors and associated digital electronics, in particular focused on characterisation of segmented HPGe detector in the framework of AGATA project and study of nuclear hyperdeformation phenomena in the region of mass A ~ 120. In SIMTech, Dr Ha is attached to the Precision Measurements Group. Currently, her main focused research area is on X-ray characterisation.

Dr Wang Zhongke specialises in laser marking, surface feature engraving and laser micromachining such as cutting, drilling of brittle material silicon wafers and glasses, metals, polymers and mold compounds for various electronic devices and microfluidics. He has managed various projects in the field of laser-material interactions, supported by National Science Foundation (China), JSPS Foundation (Japan), Simon Fellow Foundation (Switzerland) and other government funding. Dr Wang has also published over 100 scientific papers (including conference proceedings), three book chapters (published in USA and in UK), and a number of local and international patents including in China, Japan, USA and Singapore. He received the Best Research Award in SIMTech in 2010, the IES Prestigious Engineering Achievement Award (Singapore) in 2014 and the Finalist R&D 100 Awards 2015 (USA) in 2015.

Dr Linda Wu is a Senior Scientist, Team Leader for Functional Coating Team, and Deputy Director for Manufacturing Process Division of SIMTech. Her research fields cover the chemical formulations, nanoparticle synthesis and surface modifications, surface treatments and coatings for metals, ceramics and plastics substrates by wet chemical processes, roll-to-roll coating technologies, and coating materials characterisation. She holds a Bachelor degree and a Master degree in Materials Science from Tsinghua University, China, a MBA from University of South Australia, and PhD in Materials Science from NTU.

Mr Sean Looi is the General Manager of Creatz3D Pte Ltd, the authorised reseller of Stratasys™ 3D printing systems and materials in Singapore and Vietnam. Creatz3D’s additive manufacturing solutions also include Arcam™ and Sisma™ for production of metal components, Sigma Labs In- Process Quality Assurance (IPQA®) solutions and Materialise™ Rapid Prototyping Software. Despite majoring in MSc Finance, Sean decided to pursue his passion in 3D Printing and distribute 3D printing technologies in 2007. Having accumulated plenty of technical experience and knowledge of different 3D printing machines, technologies and applications, Sean is well versed in the potential of additive manufacturing and advanced solutions for direct digital manufacturing.
