Event description

Description

Around the world and Australia there are many Indigenous communities and others working to ‘revive’ their languages. In this free public seminar, Dr John Giacon from the ANU will talk about these revival efforts, with particular reference to Australia and drawing on his extensive experience of the revival of Yuwaalaraay and Gamilaraay, two Aboriginal languages of NSW.

Dr Giacon is an Honorary Lecturer in Linguistics in the School of Literature, Languages and Linguistics, ANU College of Arts & Social Science. In 2017 he was awarded the Patji-Dawes Award, a national award to recognise an outstanding language teacher.
