Event Details

Enjoy a winter get away without spending a fortune or driving too far. The Black River Falls State Forest (BRSF) is located centrally in Wisconsin and provides good snow in February. This trip is for women who like to cross country ski and snowshoe and who don't mind sharing a bunk room with others.

Trail Difficulty: There are trails that fit all skill levels. The Levis/Trow Mound trails will be more conducive to beginner skiiers so we'll spend most of our time skiing there.

Accommodations: The indoor group camp is a two-bedroom cabin furnished with an electric cook stove, refrigerator, kitchen sink, a flush toilet and shower, six bunk bed frames, radiant floor heat, and a gas fireplace.

  •  Mattresses and cooking utensils are not provided - bring your own.

  •  Smoking is not allowed inside the cabin.

  •  No pets are permitted.

  •  Located on site: a large outdoor fire ring, barbecue grill, horseshoe pits and volleyball net. Firewood is available and is included in the price of the trip.

  •  Campers are required to clean the cabin and surrounding area before checkout. Cleaning supplies are provided.

  • Check in after 3 pm on Thursday, January 31. Check out 3 pm on Sunday, February 3.

Suggested Itinerary:

Thursday, January 30
Drive up and get settled. Depending on when you get there, you can try out nearby trails or ski/snowshoe outside the cabin. Dinner will be on your own. We could go for an evening hike or play games, depending on interest.

Friday, January 31/Saturday, February 1
We will eat breakfast around 8 and hit the trails around 10 am. We will ski/snowshoe either the trails at BRFSF or at Levis/Trow Mound Trails.

The Levis/Trow Mound Recreation area features a cross country facility with 34 miles of trails. There is a heated 40'X80' chalet with water and flush toilets and showers. They do not have ski rentals. We can leave food and gear in the chalet. Daily fee is $8. It is located about a 15 minute drive north of the cabin. Trail difficult ranges from easy to expert. They have extensive beginner trails here.

BRFSF boasts 24 miles of groomed trails. There is a warming shelter at the Smerkar Trail Head. Trails range from easy to expert, but most look intermediate in difficulty. Please check the map for topography.

If you do not wish to ski one day, feel free to relax in the cabin. We'll end both days with a great meal followed by games and fun. If weather permits, we can build a bonfire on Saturday night or take an evening hike.
