Event Details

Join renowned writer, creator and teacher Barbara Slade for an inspirational masterclass held in the world-famous Groucho Club in central London.

This is an intensive creative-development workshop for writers and producers already working in the industry. With Barbara's guidance, you'll leave with a solid 'one-pager' for your series, ready to take to the marketplace.

The day includes lunch and refreshments.

BARBARA'S WORKSHOP OUTLINE

Selling a series these days is difficult. Budgets are down, competition is fierce, and commissioners have little time to wade through the sea of material they receive on a daily basis. So how do you get your fantastic idea to stand out from the crowd? How do you get investors to read your pitch in that five-minute slot before one of their important meetings? And most of all, how do you get them truly excited about your show?

‘Sell Your Series With A One-Pager’ is an action-packed, creative-development workshop I designed for our ever-changing industry. Having sold three original shows on a ‘one-pager’, and currently in negotiations on a fourth, I’m a firm believer in the art of hooking a producer or broadcaster with a strong, one-page concept and have become convinced that if you can’t sell it in one page, you’re not going to sell it with twenty.

In this fun, yet intensive workshop, you will arrive with an idea for a series, be guided through an invaluable ‘system’ of development that will apply to all of your future projects, and you’ll leave with a strong, one-page pitch ready to take to the marketplace.

WHO IS IT FOR?

This workshop is designed especially for writers, producers and others already working in the film and television industry. Both individuals and teams are welcome.

The number of participants will be limited to ensure each project receives my personal attention. Please book your place early to avoid disappointment.

KEY BENEFITS OF THIS WORKSHOP

During the day, you will...
• Create a strong, clear, central hook – the heart of any successful series.
• Ensure that your series has ‘legs’ and can grow season after season.
• Create multi-dimensional characters that your audiences will love.
• Ensure that secondary characters have a unique role and support your hero.
• Build a strong, interesting and organic world – the ‘home’ of your series.
• Discover the important element of conflict and how it will drive your stories.
• Learn invaluable tricks that will help you create an unlimited number of fresh ideas for stories.
• Learn how to clearly express your idea in a one-pager that will sell.
