Event description
Casting Director, Cara Chute Rosenbaum, CSA takes actors through the highs and lows of self-taping for COMEDY!

About this event

  • Self-taping for comedy can be exceptionally tricky, ("am I funny enough? Should I use props? Do I need to improvise or add buttons? Why is there no one here to laugh?!")
  • The energy and tone for comedies can vary WIDELY - finding the right energetic balance takes practice and attention.
  • Cara has cast ALL KINDS of comedy from multi-cam to network and cable/streaming single-cam, features and more. She's seen it *all*, both in live auditions AND self-tapes!

Over the course of four weeks, Cara will guide actors through a myriad of exercises, providing ample feedback (and serious laughs) along the way.

  • Actors will self-tape at home (with material especially selected by Cara,) and participants will gather once a week in a LIVE online forum to watch tapes while Cara provides specific feedback, food for thought and STORIES!!
  • Actors will have access to an online folder where all class work will be stored. Cara will also post helpful clips, articles and references.
  • Intimate class size to provide ample time and attention to each participant
  • Requirements: 1. A way to self-tape and 2. A good internet connection!

The word from former students:

I just wanted to say thank you again for such a wonderful class last November. I actually did a self-tape audition in the middle of the course and ended up booking my first global commercial off of that tape! I remember feeling so much more confident and ready than ever before because of all the things I was learning in your class.Taking your class gave me so many wonderful tools!

- S. Martin

I want to thank you SO MUCH for the awesome self-tape class. It was SO REFRESHING to get feedback on the self-tapes and to be able to ask questions in such a warm and friendly zoom room. We had such a great group, too. Seeing everyone’s work was really inspiring. Thank you for putting it all together and running such a great room. I leave class with a huge adrenaline shot of energy, excitement and inspiration.

- S. Gorsky

Just wanted to quickly say thank you for the past four weeks of self-tape classes! I looked forward to the feedback and seeing everyone's tapes every week, and I appreciate that you made it super fun, too. I definitely now have a more confident approach not only in the technical aspects of taping, but how I look at all the sides as well. Plus, getting a chance to learn from and connect with our fellow actors was invaluable.

- J. Keyes

Thank you so much for giving us all of your time and wisdom over the last four weeks in class. It's not an exaggeration to say that this class has been a real highlight for me and, honestly, a game changer. There have been so many light bulbs going off in my head and I CANNOT wait to get to apply all of my new knowledge to some real auditions (hopefully, someday there will be real auditions again!).

- J. Dymit

What a great class this was! Very different from the acting classes I've taken so far. Even the audition classes. Or better yet, a very eye-opening and up-to-date extension of what is generally being taught. I loved every bit of it and I was also very impressed by my class mates.

- J. Kohring
