SELF-STUDIES IN LANGUAGE INSTRUCTION AND PEDAGOGY SERIES THROUGH AN INTERCULTURAL AND RACIALLY AWARE LENS – MONTHLY MEETUP

About this Event

SIETAR BC and BC TEAL would like to invite you to join us for the fourth in our series “Self-Studies in Language Instruction and Pedagogy series through an Intercultural and Racially Aware Lens”. In these monthly sessions, instructors and administrators are invited to join conversations in teaching and learning. These conversations will involve a shared reading and discussion on teaching practices in EAL education. The facilitation of these sessions will be peer-led and have a different monthly focus in keeping with the mission and vision of SIETAR BC and BC TEAL. Hosted by Vancouver Community College. Light refreshments will be provided.

The focus of this session will be Anti-Racism and will be led by Mahin Milani who will be leading a conversation exploring the perspectives from Chimananda Adichie’s, Danger of a Single Story and Jamie Utt discussing his experience of Teacher Identity, Culturally Responsive Teaching, and Microaggressions. Please contact Taslim Damji at tdamji@vcc.ca to get links to the video prior to the session.

Mahin Milani has an MA in Applied Linguistics and specializes in Language and Power/ Discourse Analysis. She is also a LINC Instructor at SUCCESS.

This is a FREE event, please RSVP below. Please meet in room A3660. We look forward to seeing you there!
