Low self esteem is when you have a poor opinion of yourself, don't like yourself, think you are not good enough, unworthy of love and have little confidence in your abilities. If you have low self esteem, you will likely behave in ways to cope or feel better e.g. spend lots of time looking after others, never say no, keep your opinion to yourself and avoid doing things you may enjoy. Or you may find yourself working very hard in lots of ways to try and 'prove' yourself. Low self esteem has a negative impact on your life in lots of ways; you can feel down or anxious and it can affect your relationships.
This course will help you to understand what self esteem is and how your opinion of yourself has developed. You will then learn ways to develop a positive self esteem and break any unhelpful patterns of behaviour you may have developed.
This course will use a mix of psychological approaches, such as CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) and mindfulness.
This course is suitable for those age 16 and over.
No one will be put under pressure to talk or participate at any of Thrive's courses.
