Event description

Description

Have you ever thought about distributing your own work? Evolving methods of media distribution today increasingly push creators into roles as distributor and promoter, after the creative work is done. Projects that used to receive a network of support and resources, are rarer than ever. That leaves most of us: not only with new projects, but also back catalogues of our niche content waiting to be shared and discovered. In this hands-on workshop, local filmmaker H. Paul Moon leads us through self-distribution, using case studies and real-time analytics dashboards: comparing the numerous platforms, and showing how they work. You can optionally bring your own projects, to get a real start on: how to design the assets, including DVD/Blu-ray, websites, and streaming video; legacy distribution, including manufacturing on demand or bulk, retail platforms, and direct sales; online streaming platforms, including Amazon Prime, Vimeo on Demand, and more; school/library market portals and distributors; local PBS broadcast; community screenings (self-designed or crowd-sourced); accounting/analytics; and online promotion/advertising. Hands-on interactive data demonstrates first-hand experiences in self-distribution, testing intention against reality. The workshop includes a valuable printed listing of distribution resources, updated for 2020. There are several workstations for setting up your own projects, but you are encouraged to bring your own laptop to ensure your place (for basic Web access).
