Event Details

Join the PEAL Center, in partnership with Slippery Rock University, for a one day training to promote the development of self-advocacy skills for transition age youth and young adults, along with your invited guests, such as: family members, educators, friends and/or staff.

What is Self-Advocacy?

Self-Advocacy is understanding what works for you to overcome barriers and knowing how to share this information with people in the community, such as  Friends, employers, health care providers, professors, etc.

Who is the PEAL Center?

Parent Education & Advocacy Leadership (PEAL) Center is a federally-funded organization that provides training and information to families and youth across Pennsylvania, with offices in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.

Who Should Attend this Self-Advocacy Training?

Transition age youth and young adults (ages 14 - 26)

Youth and young adults may invite up to 4 people to join them, including family members, educators, friends and/or agency staff.

Mini Conference Schedule

8:30 - 9:00 AM      Registration and light refreshments 
9:00 - 10:00 AM    Opening Keynote  - Katie Smith, PEAL Youth Leadership Coordinator
10:15 - 11:30 AM  Breakout Sessions - Faciliatated by PEAL Staff and Youth Leaders

A. Youth & Young Adults | Essential Components of Self-Advocacy

B. Youth Supporters | Fostering and Supporting Self-Advocacy Skill Development

11:30 AM - 12:20 PM  Lunch (Provided) & Resource Tables
12:30 - 1:45 PM   Making It Work: Panel Discussion on Successful Transition
2:00 - 3:00 PM   Roundtable Discussion on Transition Topics
