Come and engage with a panel of experts and community leaders around the role of SEL on the inaugural International SEL Day.
About this event
Social-emotional learning (SEL) changes lives, school, and communities by preparing young people for long-term academic, professional, and social success and mobility. Engage with education experts and community leaders as we inaugurate March 27th as International SEL Day and examine why SEL matters now more than ever.
This virtual discussion will focus on advocacy and policies promoting social-emotional learning in schools and communities, which is even more urgent in times of uncertainty, as social-emotional learning:
- Lays the foundation for community building and mobilization
- Helps address and manage social stress and social anxiety
- Provides tools for healthy discourse and effective communication
A panel discussion will be moderated by David Adams, Director of Social-Emotional Learning, Urban Assembly. Panelists include:
- Dr. Maurice Elias, Director of the Social Emotional Character Development Lab at Rutgers University
- Kristen Hopkins, CEO and Founder, Dangers of the Mind
- Heather Rieman, Director of P-12 Policy, The Education Trust
- Ross Wiener, Vice President, Aspen Institute; Executive Director, Education and Society Program
